New Idols (2018)
Viktor Naumovski for Badland 3
Photographed in 5 countries, Macedonia, Albania, Bulgaria, Serbia and Greece, New Idols refers to a specific route my grandfather took when he was my age. For the first time, I went on a road-trip that he used to do repeatedly in his youth. Thus the grandfather became both a metaphorical and literal vehicle thought his reimagined twisted journey in the Balkans. Consequently, in this story everyone ‘becomes’ him by means of wearing a 3D silicone replica of his head made after his death. Shown as a non chronological narrative, the viewer is invited to a world where he loses sense of space and time, creating a pot where the cultures and identities melt and land becomes united, with my Grandfather as its protagonist.
